Privacy Policy

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text). If you choose to complete your profile, we also collect your name, school, firm, and type of legal practice. If you upgrade to a paid plan, our payment processor, Stripe, handles your card details directly, so we never see or store your card number.

Session content

During a hearing, we transcribe your spoken argument in real time so the AI judge can respond and so we can generate your debrief afterward. In the trial court, family court and Court of appeals, our avatar provider runs the judge: it receives your audio, the conversation, and the case materials the judge is briefed on. On paid plans, we also store an audio recording of the session so you can play it back from your history. This content is used to run the product and to generate your feedback. We don't sell it, and we don't use it to train third-party models beyond what's required to serve the realtime voice session itself.

Documents you upload to brief the judge (a motion, a brief, a ruling, excerpts of the record) are stored with the session, encrypted, with the text we extract from them. They are used to brief the judge on your matter and to grade your argument, and for nothing else. They are deleted when you delete the session, or when you delete your session history.

How we use your information

• To operate and improve the product.
• To bill paid subscriptions and prevent abuse of free usage limits.
• To send account-related email (verification, password reset, receipts).
• To respond to messages sent through our contact form.

Product analytics

We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how Casey is used so we can improve it. PostHog receives usage events, such as starting a hearing, uploading documents or opening a debrief, with counts and durations attached: how many pages you uploaded, or how long a hearing lasted. It may also receive masked session replays, a reconstruction of how you moved through the site's pages. Before a replay is sent, your browser hides everything you type, and everything that comes from you or your documents: case names and parties, your documents' names and contents, your hearing outline, the transcript, the written feedback in your debrief, and your name and email address. A replay can show our own headings, buttons and labels, and your scores. It never includes your hearing audio.

PostHog never receives the text of your briefs or other documents, your transcripts, your debriefs' text, or the names of your files. If you answer an in-app feedback question, your answer is stored with PostHog; please don't include confidential case details. Links that carry account secrets, such as password-reset links, are stripped before anything is sent. When you are signed in, these events are linked to your account. PostHog stores this data in the United States.

Our hosting provider, Vercel, also counts page views through Vercel Web Analytics. It uses no cookies and collects no personal data: it records which page was viewed, not who viewed it.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the vendors that run the product on our behalf. Our cloud database provider, our payment processor (Stripe), and our AI provider (OpenAI, which reads the documents you upload, grades your argument, and runs the realtime judge and transcription in the Supreme Court room) are each contractually bound to protect it and never to use it for their own marketing purposes. We also share data with our avatar provider, Anam, which runs the judge's face, voice, transcription and AI model during every hearing in the trial court, family court and Court of appeals, and with our product analytics provider, PostHog, as described above. We don't sell your personal information.

Your choices

You can review and update your profile from your account page at any time, and delete your account there. Deleting your account removes your sessions, transcripts, recordings, uploaded documents and debriefs, and cancels any subscription. Our payment processor, Stripe, keeps its billing and consent records for as long as the law requires; we never ask it to delete them.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date above.
